POWDR Competitions Assistant Manager in Copper Mountain, Colorado

Job Title: Competitions Assistant Manager Job Status: Year Round 10 Months Competition and Benefits: * Compensation: Proposed hiring rate of $1,730.77 to $1,846.15+ biweekly amount, actual pay will be adjusted based on experience. * Benefits: This position is eligible to enroll in company subsidized medical, dental, vision, flexible spending, HSA, life/disability options; season pass for employees/dependents and privileges at several other resorts. Job Summary: The Assistant Manager for the Race & Competitions Department must demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills. In this role, the Assistant Manager supports leadership and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Race & Competitions Crew. The individual is career and goal-oriented with a strong work ethic with 5+ years of actual snow sports competitions, event or industry experience is required as well as to have experience managing employees. Develops and maintains world-class training venues and events for all disciplines and levels of athletes. Supports athlete progression by creating a safe environment for athletes, guests and employees adhering to safety protocols and company policies. In this leadership position, the Assistant Manager builds strong relationships with operations teams across the Resort to ensure coordination and successful, seamless execution of an exceptional experience for participants in on-hill training, races and competitions. Knowledge of snow sport venue set-up with the ability to direct and build A and B Net protection systems, run timing, build structures, and provide support for officials/teams/guests with the goal of customer satisfaction. Strong leadership and organizational skills. Can manage people in a positive, constructive manner. Serve as a role model for employees and is a positive example to others. Demonstrate problem solving with a professional demeanor when under pressure. Proactively and enthusiastically engage the crew and holds employees accountable in their operational roles. Ensures streamlined communication and prioritizes responsibilities and task. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Operational Responsibilities: * Responsible for directing crews for major event development, production, maintenance and removal. High level skills required for producing competitions that include: Early season and post-season training for US Ski Team Speed and Tech Venue with high volume Oct.-Nov and May-June. * Helps execute team training and events such as NorAms Tech and Speed, FIS Alpine, Grand Prix, Dew Tour, Big Air/Halfpipe/Cross/Freestyle competitions. Additionally, development events supporting the athlete pipeline including USASA regional qualifiers, Team Summit/High School training, races and events, Special Olympics as well as USASA National Championships. * Ability to work long hours and days, most of it spent outdoors in a high alpine environment. Manages the construction of safety systems with significant knowledge of A, B, C and other protection systems. Oversees maintenance of all event venues, to achieve maximum usage, safety and production with the goal of guest satisfaction. * Coordinates with Events Department to provide operational support for other athletic events, concerts, festivals and other resort activations and programming. Assists in the creation of timelines and operations plans. * Holds regular operations/production meetings to ensure efficiency to coordinate logistics and operational needs for races, competitions, events and other on-hill and resort programs. * Educate and direct department employees on the construction, repair and maintenance of scaffolding, communications systems, tents, stages, ponds, jumps, bumps, timing and other event infrastructure. * Creates outstanding competition and guest experience during all event operations. Maintain a professional profile with event officials, employees and competition guests. Diplomatically and handle circumstances if issues arise in competent manner with solutions. * During events, focus on keeping employee safety, venue, snow maintenance, highest standards. Work closely with event officials, 3rd-party organizers and other resort departments to execute events. * Responsible for risk management following all Corporate and Department SOP's. View the work environment in a way to ensure the safety of our staff and competition guests. Completely understand and follow company rules and procedures. * Safely operate and educate others in the use of power equipment, timing software, communication lines, NASTAR, etc. Safely operate and educate others in the use of snowmobiles, vehicles, power equipment, technical equipment, etc. Adheres to all company polies around their use. Continually strives to exceed our guest's expectations and create memories for our guests and staff. * All Leadership team members are expected to participate in the company's Front Line Assist program to assist in operations as needed, as well as to participate in Leadership events such as meetings, required trainings, and participating in employee dinners/events Supervisory Responsibilities: * Supports leadership in decisions and the direction of the department. Assists in the creation of the goals & objectives of the department. Provide support and attends inter-departmental meetings. * Assist in hiring of staff and performance appraisals. Directs department Supervisors, Foremen and Crew in operational aspects and guest services. Ensures crew has proper certifications and attends all trainings required of employees. Helps lead the training of on-mountain protocols, safe operation of snowmobiles and other equipment and adheres to company policy. * Oversees scheduling of staff and assessment of volunteer needs. Ensure prompt daily attendance of department employees according to schedules. Reviews employee time keeping for accuracy. * Ensures that all aspects of event preparation are completed on a timely basis. Forward thinking, efficient, punctual and follow the plan when involved in operations during pre-event construction and actual event. * Provides constructive feedback and possesses the ability to quickly address and resolve any concerns with Crew personnel or operational issues, implement guidelines for employee behavior and institute corrective action plans as well as dismissal of employees. Diplomatically handle circumstances if issues arise in a professional and competent manner with solutions. * Manages the crew in properly maintaining, organizing and storing infrastructure, equipment and tools. Oversee shared responsibility to keep office space, locker room, storge spaces and shared outdoor space is organized and clean. * Create a system for equipment inventory so that it is organized and maintained. Require Crew to take care of all equipment and maintain it as if it is their own. Report loss, damage or necessary needs. * Accept any special duties assigned by Manager that may include other departments. Cooperates with other departments and understands their needs and concerns. Be a Copper Mountain Team player. * Add value to the Copper Mountain front-line team, the Competition Department and resort partners by being enthusiastically engaged from start to finish. Certificate in First Aid required. * Strong skiing skills with the ability to lift and ski with an excess of 60 lbs. Must be able to ski all terrain and locations on the mountain. * Must have the ability to work in extreme winter weather condition for 8+ hours. Environment is at 10,000' -- 13,000'. * Flexible with hours and days of work. Able to work any hours of the day, days of the week, including holidays. There will be some OT during major events. * Computer skills including use of Word, Excel, etc. Additional familiarity with Timesaver, ADP, RTP and other business programs necessary. * Instruct employees in the safe operation and maintenance of snowmobiles, trucks, snow blowers, tools, power equipment, etc. Preferred Experience and Special Skills: * Candidates will have competition operations experience with 5+ years in the competitive snow sports industry. * Maintain upper level USSA, PSIA/AASI, USASA (or equivalent) certifications including USSA certificates in at least one of referee, timing and calculations, COC, COR, RA, judging, etc. required.
