Colorado Mesa University Geosciences Summer Field Camp Instructor in Grand Junction, Colorado

JOB TITLE: Geosciences Summer Field Camp InstructorREQUIREMENTS: M.S. in Geological Sciences OR a B.S. in Geological Sciences AND currentenrollment in a Ph.D. degree program in Geological Sciences with 18 credithours graduate work completed. Completion of a multi-week undergraduate Geology summer field camp course(or equivalent) Having a positive attitude and an ability to be flexible in challengingsituations Being a skilled field geologist Having a passion for teaching Being able work long hours outdoors, in a variety of summer-alpineweather conditions, in rugged terrain Being able to carry loads up to 25 lbs over long distances Having a legal driver s license Qualifying to drive a university-owned 15-passenger van Being a collaborative team member, including strong interpersonalcommunication skills and problem resolution abilityPREFERRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience teaching undergraduate geology summer field campcourses (either as instructor or teaching assistant) Research experience on project(s) with a significant field-mapping component First-aid certifications (e.g., CPR, wilderness)DUTIES:Co-teach (in collaboration with other Geology faculty members) the 2021,6.5-week Geology Summer Field Camp course (GEOL 480) that is required forundergraduate geology majors (non- students typically do not attend). Thecourse is a combination of local (e.g. Grand Junction area) projects andtent-camping-based projects in the Colorado Plateau region (e.g., Moab,Kanab area, Henry Mts) and surroundings.Specific duties will include, but are not limited to: Actively participating in student-centered formal and informal teaching offield mapping methods and other critical geoscience skills Collaborating with co-instructors to grade/assess student-submittedmaterials and provide supportive, timely feedback to students Assisting with logistics during student off hours (i) before andafter the entire course, (ii) in between each weekly project,(iii) before and after each day in the field Assist with logistics such as meal preparation during camping weeksTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform eachessential duty and responsibility satisfactorily.
