Job DescriptionThe Volunteers of America Colorado Float Team is a team of experiencedprofessionals that assist in the facilities that we serve, such as theSenior Community Care Program for All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly(PACE), Horizons Health Care Center, Valley Manor Care Center, theHomestead at Montrose, Home Health of Western Colorado, and SeniorCommunity MeAs a PRN Cook, you will enjoy ultimate flexibility and work as little as 4shifts per month or full time hours, depending on shifts available. One(1) year of experience is required.The primary purpose of the Cook is to provide quality food service inaccordance with all State and Federal regulations and to meet the nutritionaland individual needs of the residents.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Completes defined food preparation, serving of meals and cleaning dutiesaccording to proper procedures, using various dietary equipment andsupplies, as assigned by the Director of Dietary and Management Team.2. Plans and initiates cooking schedule for food preparation to meet mealschedule.3. Prepares, seasons, cooks and serves meat, main dish, soup andvegetable for assigned meal; ensures appropriate portioned servingsaccording to portion control standards.4. Prepares nutritional snacks for residents as assigned.5. Tastes and smells prepared food to determine quality and palatability.6. Monitors temperature of hot and cold foods through food preparation andservice to ensure that established temperature goals are met prior to steamtable transfer and maintained throughout meal service.7. Stores leftovers properly, plans for use of leftover foods in accordancewith State and Federal sanitation regulations.8. Supervises dietary staff in th e absence of the Director of Dietary andAssistant Director of Dietary; initiate replacement calls for absentees andre-organizes work assignments as directed.9. Assists with department inventory program.10. Performs other duties or special assignments as directed by the Directorof Dietary.Job RequirementsQUALIFICATIONS:Friendly and enjoy working with the elderly.High School diploma/GED required preferred. Education in quantity cookingand therapeutic diets preferred.Minimum of one year food service experience in a healthcare dietary settingpreferred.Must be eighteen (18) years of age.General knowledge of quantity food preparation and portioned serving required.Ability to communicate and work effectively with various levels of staff,residents, family members and the public.Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in keeping workrecord, monitoring inventory control and supplies, and in recipe preparation.Possesses adequate strength and endurance to meet the strenuous physicaldemands of preparing and carrying quantity foods.Possesses coordination and dexterity required to prepare food and operatedietary equipment.Able to understand and follow procedures, recipe direction s, diet ordersand work assignments.Visual acuity and color discrimination for examining cooked and storedfoods; taste and smell discrimination in determining nutritional quality andpalatability of foods.Works in an area that is often very hot/cold.Ability to utilize computers and other electronic devices for tasks such astimekeeping, in-servicing and documentation.Must be willing to work in a facility that is following infection controlprecautions and regular testing for COVID-19.COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:$14.55 - 16.60/hourFlexible schedulingOvertime is available and paid when working over 12 hours in a day and 40hours in a weekOne hour of paid sick leave is accrued for every 30 hours worked403 (b) participation is available with annual company contributions afterone year and 1,000 hours of serviceEOE M/F/Vets/Disabled
