Under general supervision, instructs individual lessons in a specified area.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instructs various levels of lessons. Keeps accurate records of lessons being taught. Provides a structured format for the proper progression and development at the appropriate levels of the participant taking the private lesson. Responsible for preparation and planning of private lessons. Provides quality customer service, including interacting with participants and/or parents to answer questions and resolve problems. Ensures all possible safety measures are observed. Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports. Communicates, enforces, and complies with city and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures. Reports any issues or concerns to supervisor. Responsible for the set-up and tear-down of any required equipment. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Must be at least 16 years of age and have at least one year of teaching experience in the specified area within a recreation setting or a private club, or six months of experience as an instructor at the city of Thornton in the specified area.

Licensing/Certification Requirements:

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate and First Aid Certificate, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

For private swim lessons: IPAP training is required to teach lessons for level 3 and under. A certification in swim instruction such as Red Cross, WSI or equivalent or ability to obtain within 30 days OR at least one year of swim lesson instruction.
